Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Angewandten Forschung e.V, Germany

The Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB) in Karlsruhe is one of 60 institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft,

which is the leading organisation for applied research in Europe. Fraunhofer develops technologies and systems in the business sectors: automation; energy and the environment; civil security; defence and visual inspection. The main research areas of the Measurement, Control and Diagnosis Systems (MRD) division are modelling, simulation, control and the optimisation of industrial and environmental processes. The competencies of MRD range from various kinds of simulation method models (e.g. block-oriented models, finite element method), knowledge-based control methods to machine learning and data mining.

Role in project and relevant experience

In the SAFEWATER project Fraunhofer will be the Scientific Coordinator. Fraunhofer will lead Work Package 2, 4 and 8. In terms of its technical contribution, Fraunhofer will develop the Event Management System, work on enhanced water quality models and the implementation and verification of the models in the offline and online simulators. In SAFEWATER, Fraunhofer will lead the work on the simulators. The results of the usage case scenarios will be integrated and simulated in water utilities connected to the project.
