The SAFEWATER Project

The SAFEWATER project (01/11/2013-31/12/2016) had the aim to develop a comprehensive and pragmatic platform to manage the safety and security of drinking water, reducing the time to react and effectively respond to a crisis.

It encompassed the development of use cases, software and sensor developments as well as field trials in a range of different settings.

It was a collaborative research project funded by the European Commission under the FP7 SECURITY programme involving 9 partners from Europe and Israel.

It was coordinated by ARTTIC, France and Fraunhofer, Germany and included the involvement of three water utilities, a number of leading edge research and technological operators in the area of sensors, event management, water management simulation and integration and project managerial expertise.

This ambitious multidisciplinary project lasted 3 years and its results represent a major step forward in the state of the art of drinking water security in general and preparedness against CBRN attacks in particular.

The outcome of the SAFEWATER porject can be found in the section for Outputs on this website.
